A football club existed in
Styal in 1912, and we take that as our year of foundation.
During the years of the
depression in the 1920's, the club was kept active by six of the players who
were fortunate to be in work, and they paid the club fees and all travelling
expenses. At this time the club played in the Lancs. & Ches. Amateur League.
Immediately after the war,
Styal F.C, played in the local Wilmslow & District league (now defunct)
until they received an invitation to rejoin the Lancs. & Ches. Amateur
League in which they spent 25 years winning the occasional trophy. At this
time the club was using the Lower Village Hall as changing facilities, and
with a strong social committee they produced a positive bank balance. This
enabled them to join forces with the cricket club and to build the present
pavilion in 1958. The land on which the ground stands was then placed in
trust by the then owner H.G.Greg Esq. The crest shown on the club notepaper
is that of the Greg family.

The pavilion has since been
extended and improved. It is now made available to meetings of Styal Over
60s and Styal Youth Club, among others.
Styal FC decided to join the
Mid-Cheshire League in 1982, but struggled to make an impact during the
early years. By 1999 membership had dropped, and each of the three teams
were languishing in the lower reaches of their respective divisions. In
January 2000 the club decided to make radical changes to the committee,
which resulted in a fresh and more professional approach to the running of
the football teams.
New members quickly joined
the club, with the focus primarily on youth, and by the end of the 1999-2000
season each of the teams had managed to retain its status in its respective
league.
From this foundation the
objective was to raise the standard of the football club both on and off the
field, and the first objective was to improve the notoriously heavy pitch on
Altrincham Road.
In 2000 the club worked hard
to raise £20,000 through various local grants and loans. This was used
to implement a partial drainage scheme to the pitch. There is still more
work to be done, which will require further and consistent funding.
Progress has followed on the
pitch with all three teams now playing at the highest available amateur
level and achieving success along the way. Recent honours have included:
2000/2001 Season: Division 2
Runners up (promoted), League Cup Winners
2002/2003 Season: President Cup Winners, Altrincham Senior Cup Winners
2007/2008 Cheshire League Div
1 Champions & Cheshire League Reserve Div Champions
