The FA National League System Cup is a football competition run by The Football Association. It was created in the 2003-04 season to provide an English representative in the UEFA Regions' Cup.

In previous Regions' Cups, the FA had nominated a team to take part; in the 2002-03 season it was a Kent County League XI. UEFA decreed that in the future all Regions' Cup entrants must have won a national competition, and so the NLS Cup was formed.

The cup is contested by representative sides from leagues at level 7 of the National League System with a few other leagues permitted by the FA. That is roughly at the county level or eleventh overall tier of the English football league system. The first final was held on May 8, 2004, and was won by the Mid Cheshire League, who beat the Cambridgeshire County League 2-0.

The second final was held on May 7, 2006 at Cambridge United's Abbey Stadium, and saw the Cambridgeshire County League and Isle of Man Football League compete. The Isle of Man comfortably won the fixture with four goals in the second half and claimed the trophy with a final score of 4-0. The team travelled to the Czech Republic in April 2007 for the Intermediary Round of the UEFA Regions' Cup. After a 1-2 defeat to the Bratislava team (Slovakia) a 3-2 win over the hosting Hradec Králové team left the side with a chance of qualifying for the finals. Unfortunately a 0-1 loss to Northern Ireland's Eastern Region ended their hopes.

The 2008 final was held at Coventry City's Ricoh Arena on Saturday 3 May. The Southern Amateur League won the competition at the first attempt after winning a penalty shoot-out 4-2 following a 1-1 draw. The SAL team travelled to Turin in October 2008 for the Intermediary Round of the UEFA Regions' Cup where they took on representatives from Italy, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. The team finished second on goal difference.

Previous Finals
2004
Mid Cheshire League 2-0 Cambridgeshire County League
2006 Isle of Man League 4-0 Cambridgeshire County League
2008 Southern Amateur League 1-1, 4-2p Midland Combination (Div 1)

The unpredictable weather through January has proven a real challenge for all involved with the Cheshire League. On the Inter League front it has been particularly frustrating as we were delayed in getting the job started and watching players and performances, in a bid to start compiling names onto paper and building the foundations towards our FA NLS Cup bid in 2011 Squad.

However, recently both Mike, myself and a few of the scouting team, have been around the grounds each weekend, and are beginning to build up a list of players names we plan to take either a second look at, or include in our first squad get together. Due to the climatic conditions at the start of the year, I, as much as anybody, recognise that Clubs will be busy with midweek games and fixture congestion as the season draws to a close, therefore, we have had to tweak our original plans and take a realistic view on when we can actually pull players in, without affecting both the players and there clubs.

So, just to clarify our revised plans and thoughts, we will continue getting around the grounds and watching players as an ongoing process, and will aim to pull a Sunday afternoon training session together for mid to late April, this will then be followed with a friendly game, date tbc, but after the Cheshire League season has been completed.

My aim is to work with all of our affiliated clubs and managers to ensure we are all on the same page and that you all buy into the vision for 2011, hence why I will ask again, that you keep your recommendations coming on players you see, and recommend, could become a part of the Cheshire League 2011 NLS squad.

Letter to all Cheshire League Clubs from New Inter League Manager Steve Lloyd

Dear All

I have recently been appointed the Inter League Manager for The Cheshire League, so thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce myself to all of our associated clubs.

I am the manager of Tarporley Vics F.C and have been for over 12 years. It was with great pride and a real sense of honour I accepted the role of Inter League manager when offered by the Leagues committee.

Our overall aim is to win the 'National League Systems' Cup in 2011, before we get to that stage, it is my job to compile the best available squad that will put us in a position to achieve exactly that. The Cheshire League won the competition in 2004 and aspire to repeat that tremendous feat once again. To enable me to lead that charge, I have compiled a scouting team, headed up by my assistant, Mike Alcock (Formerly assistant manager at both Middlewich Town & more recently Winsford Utd), who will endeavour to get around the grounds on match day and draw up a dossier of potential players, that firstly we can review and then pull in for squad get togethers, trials and a number of friendly games with other related League sides.

Through the course of 2010 we will begin and finally compile a squad capable of winning the NLS Cup in 2011. Obviously, this will be a great challenge for myself, my staff, the League committee and indeed the eventually selected players, but we all need to remember, we have achieved this before and firmly believe we will achieve it again.

To assist us in scouting, I would greatly appreciate the Managers of all clubs, feedback on players they believe are at the right level and would embrace the challenges that lie ahead for us, these can be players from within your own clubs, or indeed players of opposition teams who have caught the eye during match day. This will allow me to direct my scouting team toward the right players at the right games.
It is my aim to compile the very best available players as I have already said, that means from any of our 3 Divisions, this squad is not a closed shop, I don't care what League they play in, for what team, I just want to be able to select the very best squad I can, with the right balance and  a winning attitude in it.
The over riding and key objective is to select the very best for OUR League side. As and when WE achieve, it will be WE who have made this happen, this is OUR League team and your input will be both greatly accepted and appreciated.

I have listed my contact details below, can I ask that all Secretaries and Chairman who I have not been able to contact your Managers through E-Mail, please either forward on, or print off and give to them at the very earliest opportunity.
The profile of the League side will be very much lifted in the early stages of the New Year, the scouting teams will begin to watch players from the first weekend in January. To represent this side as a player, or to contribute through opinion as a Manager, needs to be felt as a great honour to all involved, mirror imaging the pride I hold as the new Manager of the side.
I will be giving this role 110% and am both highly driven and fully focused on bringing that Cup back home.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year. Thank you in advance in supporting me fully in this challenging new venture.

Kind Regards.
