It’s the sinking admission that we are powerless to be the change we’ve been waiting for. It’s the painful evidence that the Washington deck is stacked against the kind of gun regulation that even cops and most of the NRA’s own members favor. It’s the gut punching recognition that no horror, however unspeakable, will turn that around.
“I want people to realize that, one, there’s a story in this part of Los Angeles and that there are heroes in this world, just as there are villains,” she says. “And a lot of times, [in] LA, you see Echo Park, you see Hollywood; but you don’t see Southwest Los Angeles, and you don’t see cops who have great compassion, like Lou does, and cops who come from the areas in which they patrol. My conclusion about the privileged nature of speech in our society is not new or unique: It began with the founding fathers in the First Amendment and was recently reaffirmed by the Supreme Court’s decision in the Westboro Baptist Church case. In that judgment, eight justices upheld a homophobic group’s right to protest soldiers’ funerals. As the incubator and marketplace of ideas, universities have a unique role in safe guarding this Western tradition of free speech.

We’re all influenced by those around us and by what is occurring in our lives. Something as simple as the weather can affect how we feel. A cloudy, rainy day can take an otherwise cheerful person and transform them into a gloomy Gus of sorts. I agree with everything you saying. The first time I saw the film, I was really distracted/disappointed by the blatant killing that Bats doesn seem to give a shit about. But upon my second viewing, it much more clear to me just how much the appearance of Superman/Lex manipulation has affected him (I also not ruling out a post red hood shift in moral code, but we see!).
Judge Bruno Tonioli was impressed with the 18 year old. “We were all swept away, he said. “You express it so well for someone so young.” The main criticism she received was from Carrie Ann Inaba, who said Raisman wasn’t “quite confidant in the character.” Despite the criticism’s, Raisman and her partner picked up 23 points from the judges..
